Myalacarte, Reading

So, what a shame to be back at work after such a lovely weekend…though I could do without drinking for the next few days – a little too alcohol fuelled and the hangover does last so much longer now! Having the parents over on Saturday night and drinking 3 bottles of red between the 4 of us wasn’t the best of plans…Anyway my lovely boyfriend, who I will call Mr B for the purposes of this blog, took me out for dinner on Friday to a restaurant in Caversham I’ve wanted to go to for ages – Myalacarte. He only booked a table on Thursday so we didn’t get to eat till 9 and after two G&T’s I was HUNGRY. It was well worth the wait though!

It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be with only about 12 tables but it felt really intimate and cosy because of that. I had a lovely glass of prosecco to start and Mr B had a great local beer, Hocus Pocus, tasted better than it sounded definitely! We also had a really good bottle of Rioja – Domino Nasarre Crianza Rioja Tempranillo – with the meal as neither of us are keen on white or bothered about drinking the ‘right’ wine with the ‘right’ food. All the food we had was great but my starter of Wood Pigeon was amazing and completely not what I expected – everything always tastes like chicken or beef – it was sooo meaty and really gamey…just need to work out where on earth I can buy it! The waiter was great, he even showed me how to do the stained glass pattern from my cherry dessert, not that I’ll ever get around to reproducing something that beautiful!

I would definitely recommend going there as, although not cheap, it offered excellent value for money, the food was wonderful, the service attentive and the atmosphere lovely. Now I just need to persuade Mr B to take me again!
