The weekend was excellent, so excellent I am only just finding the energy to write about it now! As a bank holiday weekend here in the UK it was extra super good, beginning on Friday with a lunchtime visit to the nearby Plowden Arms, which sits between Reading and Henley-on-Thames in Shiplake, to celebrate my recent wedding with work mates. It was sooo good – all of us were so stuffed as we couldn’t stop eating the food, despite being so full I needed to lie down when I got home!
We tried their chicken meat scotch eggs with curry mayonnaise and then I had a special of grilled mackerel with cherry tomatoes on toasted bread followed by a ham hock, broad bean, pea and cheese concoction with bread which was heavenly! Literally my only criticism would be the amount of food they serve which needs to be considered a bit more carefully – it’s very generous – but that’s not a problem I should really be complaining about! Anyway – go!
This was then followed on Saturday with a visit to my brother’s new London flat and a wander around the Lichtenstein exhibition at the Tate Modern which actually closed on Monday – but it was one of the best art exhibitions I’ve been to with pretty much every painting I wanted to see (except for The Kiss, which was ironically the same one missing from the Klimt exhibition we saw a while ago in Tate Liverpool!). One question though – why were there no chairs?!? Sometimes it’s nice to just sit and appreciate rather than race around!
Then it was back to Chez Cooper for some excellent Japanese style food whipped up by Miss T (former bridesmaid extraordinaire), the pictures speak for themselves (I LOVE yummy food, cooked for me that I don’t have to pay for!)…Then Sunday was celebrating my new Father-in-Law’s 60th with some bowling (it’s been a good 10 years since my last time) and a BBQ to round it all off. Monday was spent mostly lying down in the sun, another BBQ for good measure and reading a book like I used to – eating it up in a matter of hours!
