Treasury list Friday: Kindle covers

So my treasury list posts from Etsy continue – last week it was nature inspired jewellery, the week before it was colour pop earrings, before that wedding veils, before that the Olympics and before that engagement rings.

This week I have been mostly coveting…Kindle covers – in honour of my wonderful new Kindle touch, upon which I have read 6 books in 7 days (slightly obsessed with the free books!) I thought I’d share a few of the beautiful and fun Kindle covers available on Etsy. It also means I’m not on my Kindle which is probably a good thing after I tried to turn the page of my paper magazine this morning by pressing the right hand side of the page – I hadn’t woken up yet in my defence! :)

Don’t forget to check out my Etsy shop!

Treasury list Friday: Nature inspired jewellery

Despite my intention to make this a regular feature I didn’t get round to it last Friday – too much ‘real ‘ work to do! However back with vengeance, here is this week’s ‘Treasury list Friday’ from Etsy - last week it was colour pop chandelier earrings, the week before it was wedding veils, the week before that the Olympics and the week before that engagement rings.

This week I have been mostly coveting…nature inspired jewellery…I’ve been loving resin flower earrings and beautiful silver leaf necklaces and vintage flower covered silver rings – I especially love the real flowers embedded in resin bracelets – if only I didn’t already have more jewellery than I know what to do with!

Treasury list Friday: Colour pop earrings

I decided to start a new Friday trend and post my new treasury lists from Etsy and share my weekly obsessions with you – last week it was wedding veils, the week before that the Olympics and the week before that engagement rings.

This week I have been mostly coveting…colour pop earrings – you know the kind of earrings that are so bright that you can’t fail to stare? I’ve become stupidly obsessed with bright blue recently and now have a dress, some shoes and some jeggings all in this awesome colour so I thought I’d endeavour to find some equally bright earrings to round off my collection…

Sum of its parts – Handmade quilt for sale

After a lot of planning, cutting, sewing, binding and photo taking, my first quilt for sale is now ready.

Using ‘Fabric Freedom – Daisy Delight’, in a grid, I create a pattern, interspersing the blocks with strips of black cotton and machine stitched the whole thing together. I then added a vintage sheet back (a yellow and white striped cotton) before basting the top and bottom of the quilt together with some cotton batting in between.

Whilst I use pins to baste the three layers together it still always takes me forever – I’m paranoid about getting ridges in the back – but I finally sat down and machine stitched a grid pattern in black cotton (on the top) and white cotton (on the back). The quilt is then bound in a scrappy binding, using off cuts of the ‘Daisy Delight’ and black cotton.

I hope it’s caught your eye and you just can’t wait to own it! Purchase here…

I’ve got my next one planned – a pale green and pink quilt using vintage cottage style fabrics, backed in a beautiful oriental print from the 70′s/80′s.

If anyone happens to read this and would like to discuss a custom quilt then please get in touch! Email me at dreamalittle83@yahoo.co.uk

A very special birthday…

Whilst attempting to make things for the shop I’ve also been trying to create a quilt for my lovely cousin for her 18th – though next time I am using someone else’s design rather than stumbling along changing my mind as I go.

So here are the pictures, hopefully Meri likes it!

Oh, and, in case you didn’t already know, I opened my Etsy shop – maybe you need to buy a birthday present too? ;)

My first made for selling quilt – almost ready…

Whilst it might have seemed like I was making a whole load of fuss over nothing when I said that I was going to open an etsy shop – and then nothing more was said – I have been hard at work trying to get things made ready to start the shop.

Though I must admit I have been ridiculously distracted by wedding talk in the last few weeks I have been trying to get things done. There aren’t enough hours in the day I find! Anyway’s I just completed my first quilt top for sale – just got to quilt and bind it!

Dreamalittle gets (another) facelift

The more astute amongst you may have noticed that I have given the blog a little bit of a facelift in recent weeks, tweaking the layout and my banner style using my most rustiest, un-educated Photoshop skills to attempt to make it look halfway decent whilst avoiding paying for one of the far more beautiful and well created WordPress layouts…well I tried ;)

What is far more important than this is the reasoning behind my changes – I’ve decided to bite the bullet, stop procrastinating, stop imagining and get moving and open my very own Etsy shop where I will be selling my handmade, thrifted and generally awesome items for Mr Jo public to covet and perhaps, maybe (please) purchase. Whilst I have set things in motion though (this was a big step for the tired, lazy me of 2012), I have yet to actually photograph any of the items I have created or to put them up on the shop…so I guess it’s a bit of a watch this space for the moment. You won’t have to wait for too long I hope…

Online shopping – finding UK fabric shops

I don’t know about you but I have no patience with shopping on the high street and find that a lot of the main chain stores have largely the same stuff in them anyway, and generally not the kind of stuff I want to buy, for this reason I am a HUGE eBayaholic and love to have a good browse for a bargain from the comfort of my computer chair. I love telling people that the new top I’m wearing only cost me a fiver INCLUDING postage off of eBay, though I should keep these bargains to myself rather than appear so cheap! I’m just so pleased and want to share it with people!

It’s also come particularly in handy when ordering stuff for my quilt and much of the stuff I’ve used/will be using has come from there. I think it’s hard to find interesting fabrics in the UK which are modern and fresh without paying the world for them, in my quest for a quilt that doesn’t completely break the bank I’ve found some amazing online shops on there, here are just a few worth looking at:

Favouritefabrics1
Cottonsquares

Juliescraftythings
Jeanesdecoupageandfabricshop

Other great places to find interestng fabrics which won’t break the bank include:

Tonicliving – retro inspired fabrics
Tikkilondon – haberdashery in Kew, London
Seamstar – new, very cool and kitsch fabrics
Sewmamasew – great American based fabric shop
Cottonpatch – Patchwork and quilting UK based shop

In my online travels to find these things I’ve also come across such a huge range of wonderful sites out there containing beautiful hand crafter/designed/picked stuff that you just won’t find on the high street…unless you’re lucky enough to live somewhere which still has lovely unique shops – I don’t sadly So just a few of them:

Etsy – US based community of crafters selling all things handmade & vintage (UK/EU based sellers too)
Folksy – the UK equivalent of etsy, not quite as great yet but getting there I think
Envelop – hand illustrated cotton basics
Seltzer Studios – boutique for home decor, gifts and accessories
Stardust Online – vintage boutique
Makers Online – selection of handmade goods

Are you an online shopping junkie? What are your favourite online shops?
